The MFA Program Announces Nominees to the AWP Intro to Journals Award

The University of Arizona MFA Program Announces the Program’s Nominations for the AWP Intro Awards:

Maddie Norris, “Still Hearts”



Raquel Gutiérrez, “Horizon as Seen from a Plane, A Cheap Flight” from the packet Softer Systems

Gabriel Palacios, “The Spanish Trail Motel (The air assault of trumpets…)” from the packet The Almanac of Free Things

Logan Phillips, “Night Poem” from the packet Small Bliss in the Time of Chaos


Each creative writing program may nominate five creative works (one piece of fiction, one piece of nonfiction, and three poems) to the AWP Intro Awards national competition.


The program’s AWP nomination to the national competition is an honor and not a monetary award. If the nominated work is selected as one of the winners of the national competition, it will be recognized by AWP and published in a leading literary journal.
