Writing Programs CT Lecturer Travel Support
We've planned for up to $500 for attending/presenting/speaking/facilitating at a conference. The conference needs to include a pedagogical component that you can attend. Obviously, we imagine many of you are likely to use this for registration fees for online/virtual conference (aka, no "travel"); that is a fabulous use of these funds!
For example, you can "go to" MLA, present on literary analysis, and attend one of the sessions that focuses on teaching (even if it focuses on teaching literature). The newspaper test of using our royalty budget is that this feeds back into your teaching of writing classes; so as long as you attend a pedagogy session, you/we pass the newspaper test and are good to go!
We do not have the budget if everyone attends and presents, so there is a little element of "first come, first serve" to this budget line. We will reserve at least 1/3 of the budget line for spring (so the funds are not all used in fall).
What you need to do to access these funds:
- get WP pre-approval; complete this form: https://forms.gle/DaMUMXmhLLvRLKsQA. Completing this form does not guarantee you funding.
- After submitting this form, you will receive a message from one of the Writing Program Administrators that will share what amount for which you were pre-approved.
- Next, you will need to submit a Travel Authorization request through the Concur application. Log in using your UA credentials and start a new request here: https://travel.financialservices.arizona.edu/. Follow the steps outlined in this presentation. (You you can find links to both on the Department’s Faculty page: https://english.arizona.edu/faculty-staff-resources.)
- Once the business team has processed that, you should be good to go:
- If the registration is under/at the approved amount, you are allowed to use the P-card to pay for registration so you don't have to wait to get reimbursed. To do this, you make an appointment with someone from the Business Team, take your laptops and sit in their office, and purchase the registration while sitting there, and then forward the email receipt.
- Otherwise, everything else is reimbursement.
If you have any questions about your funding pre-approval, email Shelley Rodrigo (rrodrigo@arizona.edu).
If you have any questions about the department travel authorization and reimbursement process, email the English Business Team (sbs-englishbiz@arizona.edu).
