Job description
The University of Arizona Press is a leading publisher of scholarly works highlighting the people and places of Arizona and the Southwest. We seek a detail-oriented individual with an interest in scholarly literature and rights management for a permissions internship in our office located in the Main Library. This internship allows individuals to learn about all areas of UAP’s publishing program by engaging with our frontlist and backlist titles. Though the position emphasizes rights and permissions work, there will be opportunities for learning experiences with other departments.
Duties include:
- reviewing requests to reprint our copyrighted material in other books, journals, art exhibits, websites, etc.
- researching book files for rights and copyright information for in-print and out-of-print books
- coordinating payment of permissions fees
- registering newly published books for copyright
- processing accessible material requests
- maintaining databases, files, and spreadsheets
Duties may include:
- Assisting co-workers with events and duties
- File organization and digitization
Reports to:
- The Permissions Intern reports to the University of Arizona Press Rights Administrator.
Qualifications:
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
- Highly detail oriented
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Interest in contracts and copyrights
- Strong research skills
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Familiarity with Office Suite
- Legal experience preferred but not required
Hours:
The University of Arizona Press operates between the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays. UAP observes federal holidays and University of Arizona closures. Interns will be scheduled for 8.5 to 9 hours each week (according to their class schedule).
Compensation:
Interns will earn $15.15 per hour and may be enrolled in 3 internship credit hours through the college of their choice.
