Nov. 28, 2022

Christopher Cokinos has signed a contract with New York-independent Pegasus Books for his project, "Still as Bright: A Backyard Journey through the Natural and Human History of the Moon." It is forthcoming in early spring 2024, in time for a solar eclipse that will be visible across much of North America and, hopefully, the launch of the crewed Artemis 2 mission to the Moon. Speaking of Artemis, Chris has had coverage of the mission in Discover, Astronomy and the Los Angeles Times, which published his op-ed here: https://www.latimes.com/opinion/story/2022-11-15/artemis-nasa-moon-laun… . Chris also contributed to a discussion of the human return to the Moon on Al Jazeera's The Stream, "Is Humankind's Future on the Moon?" here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePWae2JMxKk . His poem "A Brief History of the Moon" was included, with poetry by the Poetry Center's Julie Swarstad Johnson, on the NASA TV broadcast for International Observe the Moon Night. His poem "On Hearing the Sonic Boom of a Meteor Over Salt Lake City While Drinking Coffee with Lao-Tzu" appeared in the October 28, 2022, conservation issue of High Country News.
