The Communist Cave in Paris / a talk and seminar

In a "preliminary sounding" of the Communist Party headquarters in Paris, France, Lytle Shaw presents an account of Marxist theory and architectural criticism through a site-specific analysis of the Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer's modernist building (commissioned in 1965 and finished in 1980). Part of a forthcoming project, this talk/seminar offers a material re-placing of French post-structuralist and Marxist theory through the spatial rhetoric of architecture: "We have many accounts of structuralist Marxism, but none of what this might have meant for actual Marxist structures like Niemeyer’s building..." We hope you can join us for a tour through the Communist cave!

Folks interested in the talk can access a draft of the introduction to Lytle's book project and powerpoint slides in this google drive folder.
