CESL Practicum

While the English Applied Linguistics program does not offer a teaching practicum on campus, the Center for English as a Second Language offers a 20-Hour or 40-Hour non-credit Practicum that can be taken independently by Undergraduate and Graduate (Certificate, MATESL, and PhD in SLAT) students. The practicum combines classroom observations, supervised or assistant teaching practice, and working with an experienced teacher at CESL. It is intended to provide trainees with hands-on and authentic experience in the ESL classroom and to connect previous teacher training with classroom application and implementation. Students pay CESL directly for the Practicum experience, and receive a Certificate upon successful completion. At least 20 hours of practical teaching experience is recommended by TESOL, Inc. for all teachers entering the field.
