Welcome to the English Language/Linguistics Program. Situated within the Department of English, we offer the MA degree program in ESL, as well as participate in the interdisciplinary PhD program in Second Language Acquisition and Teaching (SLAT). In addition, we collaborate with the other graduate and undergraduate programs in the English Department.

Our MA/ESL program is specifically designed to develop leaders in the TESOL field, and attracts students from all over the world. The program strongly emphasizes theory and research, and many graduates go on to PhD studies in linguistics and applied linguistics, while others assume increasingly responsible positions in the US or their home countries. Most of our EL/L faculty have experience teaching English in other countries, and have achieved international recognition for their work.
