About the Minor

With a minor in English, you will supplement your major field with language, writing, and critical thinking skills as well as knowledge of literary tradition and the histories and cultures that inform our world.

How to Declare the Minor

Review minor requirements below and complete the Declare Minor form.

Minor Requirements

There are 21 units required for the English minor (9 units of these units must be upper-division).* You must maintain a 2.0 minor GPA to graduate and at least three English units must be taken at the University of Arizona.

Core Course (6 units)

280: Introduction to Literature

380: Literary Analysis

*ENGL 380 counts toward the 9 units of upper-division credit.

Minor Elective Courses (15 units)

At least 6 units must be upper-division. Choose your electives from 200-level (200-299), 300-level (300-399), and 400-level (400-499) ENGL courses except from the following: ENGL 201, 209, 210, 301, 304, 304, 401, 404, 409. See your Academic Advisement Report for a list of approved courses.
